General Notes: Husband - John Van Voorhis
For many years he lived on the original Van Voorhis homestead, Washington County, Pennsylvania, after that he resided in Monongahela City, where he was a prominent business man, but still owned the homestead where his son Charles resided.
He was a sheep-raiser as well as a systematic farmer. He was for years president of the Monongahela Valley Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
He was reared on the home farm in Carroll Township and obtained his educational training in the old Stone school of that district. He subsequently engaged in farming on the home farm until 1886, when he moved to Monongahela, where he embarked in the grocery business, in which he continued for a period of six years, after which time he was living in retirement at No. 514 Main street. Mr. Van Voorhis owned a fine farm of 240 acres in Carroll Township, and also owned considerable real estate in Monongahela City. He was a Republican in politics, and served as a member of the township school board. He held membership with the Presbyterian Church. [TCHWWC, 1220]
