General Notes: Husband - John Proudfit Taylor, M.D.

He attended the public schools of North Fayette township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and Ingleside Academy. He then engaged in teaching school, which vocation he followed three years. He then entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a telegraph operator, but two years later, having determined to follow his father's footsteps in the medical profession, he matriculated in the West Penn Medical College, at Pittsburgh, where he was graduated in 1897, with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He then took a post-graduate course in the Philadelphia Polyclinic Hospital, and, on May 2, 1898, located at McDonald. He built up a very large and lucrative practice, specializing in surgery until April, 1923, when he suffered the loss of a hand through infection. He was surgeon to the Pennsylvania railroad until his resignation from that position in 1924. He was a member of the Washington County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. Dr. Taylor was always actively interested in political affairs, giving his support to the democratic party, and he rendered service as a member of the borough council. Fraternally, he was a member of Garfield Lodge No. 604, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, at McDonald; Darius Chapter, No. 294, Royal Arch Masons, of McDonald; Mt. Moriah Council, No. 2, Royal and Select Masters, of Pittsburgh; Chartiers Commandery, No. 78, Knights Templar, of Carnegie; Pennsylvania Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Pittsburgh; a life member of Syria Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, at Pittsburgh, in all of which bodies he for many years took an interested part. His religious belief was that of the Presbyterian church.
