Previous to his emigration to Gonzales, Texas, he acquired the professions of law and medicine, after which he spent some time in the military academy at West Point and was classmate of Gen. U. S. Grant. He had been a member of the National Congress of Texas from the county in which he was a resident at the time of his death - he died aged thirty-three years and some months.
