Another source states that his father was Andrew Ziegler, Sr.

He inherited about one hundred and sixty acres of the original tract [belonging to his father?], and was always a farmer.

He was a tanner, carrying on that business at Harmony, Butler County, Pennsylvania, about thirty-seven years, and then traded for a farm in Butler county. About 1846 he bought the farm where his son, John Y., later resided.
