He was a native of Germany. He migrated from Bedford County, Pennsylvania, to Bairdstown, Westmoreland County, in 1846, where he engaged in merchandizing. In 1847 he located in Blairsville, Indiana County, and was the ticket agent of the P. R. R. for twenty years.
