General Notes: Husband - Nicholas Behm

He came with his father to Butler County, Pennsylvania, and purchased a farm of 100 acres in Forward township, where his son Augustus H. would later reside. There he spent the balance of his days. He filled the offices of overseer of the poor and school director for many years; in politics he was a Dem-ocrat, and was a member of St. John's Reformed church of Evans City.

He was born in Hessen, Germany, and was about fourteen years old when brought to America, the voyage consuming about three months. While located at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he husked corn where Ohio Street later ran in that city. He worked for a time in a brick yard in Allegheny, and was there married. He and his wife moved to Butler County, while it was yet in its undeveloped state, the forests being still standing. He purchased a 100-acre farm for $900. He erected a log house and barn, and set about clearing the land, which he subsequently put under a high state of cultivation. He remained on this farm until his death. [TCHBBC, 1007]
