Robert Bruce Ziegler
Robert Bruce Ziegler, 79, a for­mer Oil City High School teacher, died Friday morning, Aug. 23, 2002, at the home of his son, Bruce D. Ziegler, in La Grange, N. C.
Born May 8, 1923, in Van, he was a son of Ralph Emerson and Grace Katherine Exley Ziegler.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the 159th Combat En­gineers as a medic and was in­volved in all five major European campaigns.
He was an industrial arts teacher in Emlenton for two years and for more than 30 years at Oil City High School, where he served as the director of the de­partment until his retirement in 1982.
He taught night classes for adults for many years and also su­pervised training classes in area industries.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian of Oil City, where he taught Sunday School for many years and served as a deacon and elder.
He was a member of Mason­ic Lodge 363; the Talbot Com­mandery, where he served as past commander; the Royal Arch Chapter and the Lodge of Perfection.
He played trumpet with the American Legion band for many years when they were the nation­al 40 & 8 champions. He also played in a brass trio with his brothers for church services throughout the area and over the Butler Christian radio station for Kathryn Kuhlmann's Sunday broadcasts.
He was married Dec. 23, 1950, to the former Dora M. Stover, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Helen Elizabeth Miller and her husband, Dr. Gilson M. Miller; a son, Bruce David Ziegler and his wife, Cindy Wrobel Ziegler; five grandchildren, Nathan M. Miller, Joshua E. Miller, Megan E. Miller, Laura Elizabeth Ziegler and Abby Corrine Ziegler Chadwick; and a great-grandson, Jonah Davis Chadwick.
Survivors also include a sister, Eloise Stover; a brother and his wife, Donald D. and Audrey Ziegler; a sister-in-law, June Ziegler; an aunt Helen E. Exley; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Nyle D. Ziegler.
There will be no viewing.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sec­ond Presbyterian Church in Oil City with the Rev. Dean Ziegler, Mr. Ziegler's nephew, and the Rev. Howard Gaston of Second Presbyterian Church officiating.
