General Notes: Husband - Warren Fay Stone
He was of English descent, and his ancestors were related to General Nathaniel Green, of Revolutionary fame and were pre-Revolutionary inhabitants of Massachusetts. He was a carpenter by trade, and though of feeble health, was distinguished by a strong, clear, and active mind. The year prior to his death, in his forty-second year, he was a member of the Legislature of Massachusetts. He had a keen appreciation of culture, and a tendency to intellectual occupation.
His ancestors were intermarried with the families of Warren, Prescott and Green, of heroic Revolutionary fame, and can be traced directly to Simon Stone, who came to America in the ship "Increase," in 1635, and settled at Watertown, Massachusetts. His early descendants were engaged in the Indian wars, a garrison having been established at the house of Deacon John Stone, in Groton, in the year 1691, known in the early records as "Stone's Garrison." Just a hundred years later, and yet as early as 1790, a school kept at his house took the name of a lineal descendant, Jonas Stone. Of the same lineage was Rev. Thomas T. Stone, the oldest living Unitarian minister [1890], the friend of Emerson and Alcott, and a contributor to the Dial. [HMEF, 397]
His grandfather Jonas Stone, was in Colonel James Prescott's regiment in the battle of Bunker Hill during the Revolutionary War. Jonas Stone's father married a cousin of Colonel William Prescott.
General Notes: Wife - Mary Williams
She was of Welsh extraction, and her ancestors had settled in America during the early years of its history.
Her grandfather, Jacob Williams, was a Revolutionary soldier, and his first American ancestor, Thomas Williams, was one of the original proprietors of the town of Groton [Massachusetts?], which was settled in 1655, and a reputed relative of Roger Williams, founder of the Rhode Island colony.
