He was born in Indiana and in 1855 removed with his parents to St. Lawrence Twp., Scott County, MN, where he resided the remainder of his life. He was educated in the schools of Chaska and Shakopee, MN. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and Independent Order of Foresters. He served as chairman of St. Lawrence Twp. Board of Supervisors for several years. The family were members of the Presbyterian Church.
