He was wounded in the Civil war at Fort Blakley, near Mobile, Alabama, while in command as a prominent officer, leading his men in an engagement, dying eight hours after the amputation of his leg. He was a graduate of Jefferson College, Pennsylvania, and had the gospel ministry in view.
