He was born on the Stewart farm in Blacklick township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the public schools there and at Grove City business college. While still in his teens he became interested in business at Jacksonville as a dealer in horses, buggies and harness, continuing thus for some years, and later engaged in the same line at Indiana borough. Returning to Jacksonville, he followed the business here again until 1912, in which year he sold out, then giving his time and attention to a moving picture show at Titusville, Pennsylvania. He was a Republican in politics.
