General Notes: Husband - Solomon Shumaker

A native of Germany, he came to America prior to 1770 with six brothers. They settled first in Loudoun County, Virginia.

He was born in Loudoun County, Virginia, and emigrated from there to Kiskiminetas township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, in the autumn of 1799. Prior to his becoming a pioneer there he had married and on their arrival he entered 340 acres of land near Spring Church, and built on it a cabin in which he and his wife lived until 1806, when he completed a stone house, which served them as a more comfortable home. In it Mrs. Shoemaker cooked over the great fire-place all of her married life, never owning a cook-stove. In this old house, too, she used the spin-ning-wheel, and spun the flax from which she made all of her own, her husband's and her children's clothing.

He was a democrat, a member of the Reformed church for some time at what later became known as St. James', and was one of the organizers of the Lutheran church at Boiling Springs.

Notes: Marriage

They were the parents of nine children, of whom six grew to adulthood.
