When he was five years old, he moved with his parents to McKean County, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools, studied at Grove City College and in 1897, as a boy of eighteen, entered the employ of the South Penn Oil Company, beginning as a roustabout. As he acquired experience he was advanced within the organization, filling many positions successfully. In later years he had important executive duties, cover­ing all phases of the large business-production, refining and marketing-and in January, 1939, was elected vice-president.
Mr. Stevenson was also vice-president of the Bradford Transit Company and a member of the board of directors of the Pennzoil Corporation. He was well known in the petroleum industry and was a member of several of its or­ganizations, including the National Petroleum Associa­tion, the American Petroleum Institute, the Independent Petroleum Association, and the Bradford Producers As­sociation. At Bradford he was also a member of the board of commerce. In addition to his business connections, he was affiliated fraternally with Mount Jewett Lodge, No. 627, Free and Accepted Masons, the higher Scottish Rite bodies of the order, including Coudersport Consistory, and Zem Zem Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Mr. Stevenson was a Republican in poli­tics and attended the First Methodist Church. Among his leisure pursuits, music occupied an important place beginning in his youth, when he played the cornet and led several orchestras and bands.
