General Notes: Husband - William Shank

August 11, 1854, he left the land of his nativity, and set sail for America, being accompanied by his wife, a son and three daughters, and they made the eventful and prolonged voyage on the sailing ship "Anna," which occupied ten weeks in making the trip, dropping anchor in the port of the city of Baltimore, Maryland, November 11. From that city the family soon afterward set forth for Somerset County, Pennsylvania, proceeding on the Baltimore & Ohio railroad to Cumberland, which was then the western terminus of the road, and proceeding thence by wagon to their destination, three miles east of the present city of Somerset. In 1876 the family removed over the line into Westmoreland County, in what is now Donegal township.
