He was an officer in a Pennsylvania regiment in the war of the Revolution, and after its close located on a farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where, in connection with its operations, he also operated a mill. He was quite a popular man of the community, served as justice of the peace, which was an important office at that time, being the same as county judge, and was also county coroner.
