His parents were natives of Berks County, Pennsylvania, and came to Westmoreland County about 1783. They were of German descent.
He was brought by his parents to Westmoreland County before he was two years of age. He was a farmer by occupation and was a member for many years of the Reformed church at Manor, Pennsylvania.
The old family homestead descended to him, and he continued to reside on it during the remainder of his natural life and his death occurred there in 1867, when more than eighty years of age. He was twice married.
