He had the advantages of an excellent education, attending the public schools of his native township, those of Pleasant Unity and at Hickory Springs, Pennsylvania. He followed in the footsteps of his father as a farmer, having had practical and thorough instruction in this field of labor. He was a Prohibitionist, and a member of the Church of God.
