General Notes: Husband - James T. Smith
In 1821, with his brother, William Smith, he came to Washington, Pennsylvania, and they established a general store and succeeded so well in their enterprise that they were led, one year later, to seek a wider field, which they found in Philadelphia. They established themselves in commodious quarters on Market Street in that city and continued there prosperously until the breaking down of James' health caused them to sell their mercantile interests in Philadelphia, in 1825.
