General Notes: Husband - George Smith

In the early colonial days of our national history George Smith and his five brothers emigrated to the United States from Germany. Five of them were gallant soldiers in the war of the revolution, a couple having been with George Washington on his memorable trip across the Delaware, and others participating in the battle of Fort Duquesne, where the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, now stands. Some of these brothers settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and there reared families. George Smith, the only one whose name is known, was one of a party to survey the present town of Perryopolis, Fayette County. By trade he was a gunsmith. He evidently settled for a time at Brush Creek, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where his son, George, was born.
