General Notes: Husband - William A. Sloan
He was reared and educated in his native township, and September 25, 1861, he enlisted in Company C, Seventy-ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and participated in the battles of Perrysville, Nashville, Tullahoma, Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Atlanta, and Stoneboro. He was then discharged from the service, his term of enlistment having expired, and returned to his home. He was a Republican in politics, and was a justice of the peace and school director in his township, and also filled most of the other township offices. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church, and filled the office of elder in that organization.
