General Notes: Husband - Dr. Jason Thomas Waid


His early education was received at Guys Mills, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and he graduated from Allegheny College, Meadville. His study of medicine was begun with Dr. A. P. Waid, of Centerville, Crawford county, Pennsylvania; after studying with Dr. Waid, he took one course of lectures at the University of New York, and afterward studied at the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, New York, from which he was graduated and received the degree of Doctor of Medicine. He practiced first at Spartansburg, in Crawford County, and in December, 1882, he moved to Ridgway, Elk County, Pennsylvania, where he practiced very successfully the rest of his life. At the time of his death, he was examining physician for twenty-two life insurance companies. He was a member of the Elk County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the American Medical Association, also of the American Society of Microscopists, and of the Ninth International Medical Congress, held at Washington, D. C. He was a Mason, a member of Elk Lodge, No. 379, Free and Accepted Masons; Elk Chapter, No. 230, Royal Arch Masons; and Knapp Commandery, No. 40, Knights Templar; also a member of the Royal Arcanum. Dr. Waid was earnestly interested in the work of the Congregational church, and was a member of the First Congregational Church at Ridgway, actively interested in church and Sunday school work. From the foundation of the State Association of Churches and Ministers until his death, he was its registrar. He held a similar position in the Northwestern Association of Congregational Churches, and was a member of the local and state associations.


General Notes: Wife - Carolyn Sarah Wood


For eight years after Dr. Waid's death, she was registrar of the Congregational State Association, succeeding him in that position. Mrs. Waid was for three years treasurer of the State Association, and for a like period secretary of the Pennsylvania State Woman's Missionary Union, and was registrar and secretary of the Northwestern Congregational Association. She was a graduate of the normal school at Edinboro, Pennsylvania.
