He was born in eastern Pennsylvania, and removed to Armstrong County, where he was engaged in farming for over fifty years. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church.

He was from eastern Pennsylvania, and served in the Revolutionary War. Coming to Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, he settled in Kittanning township, where he and his wife eventually died.
