General Notes: Husband - A. A. Beacom, M.D.
During his childhood he attended the Laird Institute in Franklin, Pennsylvania, generally known as the old Murraysville Academy. Here he was prepared for college, and shortly afterwards matriculated in the medical department of the Western University of Pennsylvania (later known as the University of Pittsburgh). Here he distinguished himself as a student of medicine, and was finally graduated with the class of 1903, taking the degree of Doctor of Medicine at that time. Immediately thereafter he settled at Kecksburg, Mount Pleasant township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and began at once the general practice of his profession. His ability and learning as a physician soon made him well known in the community and gained him an enviable reputation. Rapidly his practice grew and extended until it was one of the largest in the region. Dr. Beacom always kept himself fully abreast of the most modern developments of his chosen science, and was a close and painstaking student of all medical subjects. He was also an active member of both County and State Medical societies.
Dr. Beacom was prominently identified with local public affairs and served his community in several official capacities. For eleven years he was a member of the Mount Pleasant township school board and served on that body at different times as president and secretary. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Mount Pleasant, and was affiliated with the Masonic order at Greensburg.
He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church at Kecksburg.
