He served in the Civil war from Venango County, Pennsylvania, and resided in [Springfield,] Missouri for many years. [HMC 1909, 846] He was married twice.
He was associated with his cousin Shadrach Simcox in early years of the oil business; they were among the first to take oil by boat to Pittsburgh from Venango County.
