The history of this person is somewhat in doubt. Some information is available from Dewoody Records; the only other source at hand at this time is a marriage license application. The surname Umstead is somewhat speculative, the application is the only source for that and the handwriting of the first couple of letters is quite illegible. The only source for the marriage with Smith is this same application.
