General Notes: Husband - Philip Trout
He came as a young man from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, to Westmoreland County, and settled in Mount Pleasant township, purchasing upward of three hundred acres of land. It was through his marriage to his first wife that he came into possession of this land. This land when purchased was an unbroken forest, and the first build-ing which he erected was a log cabin. The floor was made of split saplings or logs, and the furniture consisted of rude stools and a rough bed made by Mr. Trout of timber cut in the woods. Their simple meals were prepared in their one cooking vessel. This cabin was succeeded in the course of time by a log house, in which he lived during the remainder of his life. He cleared one hundred and fifty acres of his land, and became one of the sub-stantial farmers of his day. He was an old line Whig, and a member of the Lutheran church.
