General Notes: Husband - George Trauger
There are contradictory statements in the sources regarding the parents of this individual.
He received his education in the subscription schools of his youthful days and began for himself as a farmer. His main business through life has been farming and milling but was engaged for two or three years in mercantile business, owning a store at Pleasant Unity and one at Bradenville. He owned a fine farm underlaid with coal and a flourishing mill with all modern improvements. He was a democrat, though rather independent in local matters, and with his wife belonged to the Lutheran church. [BHCWC, 522]
When he started in life for himself he purchased a small farm at what became Trauger's Station, in Mount Pleasant township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. There was then an old water-mill on the place which had been built by a member of the Lose family, and this mill Mr. Trauger operated in connection with his farm. He found time to make improvements in it until he had a complete roller-process mill, and he also increased his farm until he was the owner of two hundred and twenty-five acres of land. He followed the milling business in connection with farming until he retired from active labor some years prior to his death. For many years he was a member of the school board. He was a man whose advice was sought, and who acted as guardian for many orphan children in his part of the county. He was a Democrat in politics. He was an active member of the Lutheran church, filling the offices of deacon and elder and frequently representing his church at the synod. [HWC 1906 III, 5]
