General Notes: Husband - Robert Shippen

His ancestors came to America about 1639 from England and first located in Boston, Massachusetts, but later removed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the family was thereafter prominently identified with the interests of the Keystone State. Most of its early representatives belonged to the Society of Friends, and were engaged in mercantile pursuits.

Robert Shippen was a native of Philadelphia, and was a cousin of Chief Justice Shippen, whose daughter married General Arnold, the traitor.
