General Notes: Husband - Samuel Neel Shields

He was born in Hempfield township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, about ten miles south of Greensburg. He made his home with his parents until he had reached the age of twenty-five years, gaining in the meantime his education at the local public schools. In 1874, however, after his marriage, he left the parental home and engaged in farming at Mount Pleasant. Shortly afterwards he removed to Fayette County, Pennsylvania, where he farmed two different tracts of land, one of these was a farm of one hundred and eighty acres. In the year 1887 he came to Greensburg, Westmoreland County, and time rented out his farm in Fayette County. For about five years he operated an undertaking business at Greensburg, but afterwards sold out his interests in that concern. Mr. Shields was a Republican in politics, and was identified with the Presbyterian church.
