General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Townsend
He and his brother, Francis, were attracted by the possibilities of life along the western border of Pennsylvania, and in 1784 they removed with their families to Washington County, near Brownsville.
He himself, as well as his father, had received an education in eastern Pennsylvania, and his grandfather, Joseph Townsend, had been a man of superior attainments with unusual literary inclinations for those times-his small library, imported from England, being a rather remarkable affair.
He was born on the Townsend homestead in East Bradford, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He and his brother Francis moved with their families to western Pennsylvania in 1786.
