General Notes: Husband - Davis Shepler
He received such education as the common or subscription schools of the early part of the nineteenth century afforded and devoted his whole life to agricultural pursuits except four or five years preceding his death, during which time he carried on, in connection with farming, a mercantile business at California, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
He was an enthusiastic worker in the cause of democracy and an earnest member of the Methodist church, in which he was a class leader nearly all his life. He was also for many years the energetic and faithful superintendent of the Sabbath school. He was a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, Philips Lodge, Monongahela City, Washington County, by which order he was buried. For seven years he served as lieutenant in the State militia of Pennsylvania.
