The ancestors of this family were natives of Germany who settled in Virginia, in the vicinity of Winchester, whence three brothers-Matthias, Peter and Philip Shepler-moved to Pennsylvania, taking up farms on Monongahela Hill, Rostraver township, Westmoreland County.
