Mrs. Luella Ray Dies Here; Services Pending
Mrs. Luella (Beatty) Ray, wife of the late J. Robert Ray, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday in the Geriatrics Section of the Jane Phillips Medical Center here following several months illness. Funeral services are incomplete awaiting the arrival of family members from distant points and will be announced by the Arnold Moore Funeral Service.
A resident of Bartlesville since 1908, Mrs. Ray came here shortly after statehood with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Beatty. Mrs. Ray was born on July 24, 1882, at Rockwell City. Iowa. Her family moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she began her education. She later attended Fairmount Academy at Fairmount, Ind., and Marion Normal College. She taught school in the Marion school system for five years. She and J. Robert Ray were married in Bartlesville on June 16, 1909. Her husband was a prominent practicing attorney here until his death on Dec. 8, 1953.
Mrs. Ray was an honorary state regent of the D.A.R.; a chapter regent of the National Society of the D.A.R.; past president and honorary, member of the Bartlesville Tuesday Club: an honorary member of the Musical Research Society having filled many offices of the society. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bartlesville for over 68 years.
Surviving Mrs. Ray are one daughter, Mrs. D. McLain (Roberta B.) Withers, 14902 Chadbourne, Houston, Texas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
