This may be information about this individual: J. M. SHANNON, was born September 2d, 1814, in Center county, Pa. Came to Venango county with his father in 1832; settled in Cranberry township on the "Big Meadows." Came to Richland in 1867. Mr. Shannon relates that when his father first moved to Cranberry that he killed eleven rattle-snakes in one half day; that they lived in their wagon while sowing their first crops. [HVC 1879, 634]
