After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, in 1889, he studied and practised law, with his brother William in Pittsburgh. In 1897 he removed to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he was an active member of the bar for ten years prior to his death. At Colorado Springs he was president of the Rocky Mountain Alumni Association of the University of Pennsylvania, a director of the Y. M. C. A., a member of the El Paso County Bar Association and of the Colorado State Bar Association. He practiced in both the County and Supreme Court of Colorado.
