General Notes: Husband - James Crowther

He was of English, or perhaps Scotch origin.

He was born and raised in Centre County, Pennsylvania. In 1842 the family removed to Venango County, where they long resided.

At the age of eighteen years he commenced as an apprentice at the cooper trade. He learned and followed it for several years. He married and they settled in Centre County, and followed farming until 1842, when he removed to Venango County, and settled on a farm west of Dempseytown. There had been very little clearing done on the place when he came, and no buildings save a small log cabin, in which they lived for two years, and in the meantime building a more comfortable house. In 1870, he erected a fine residence. He acted as Road Commissioner for three years and Supervisor for twenty years.

He and his wife were the parents of eleven children, ten of whom, six brothers and four sisters, were still living in 1880.
