General Notes: Husband - Erkuries Beatty


He learned the profession of printing and commenced the publication of the Columbia Spy. In 1843 removed to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where, for a period of fourteen years, he conducted the Herald establishment. During the Rebellion he entered the volunteer service as second lieutenant in the Seventh regiment, Pennsylvania Reserves; appointed ordnance officer of McCall's division, participated in the Seven Days' battles on the Peninsula, in June, 1862, and was severely wounded at New Market Crossroads; he subsequently re-entered the service, and mustered out with his regiment in June, 1864.
