VICTOR D. SCHREFFLER, 21, of Van, drowned Sunday afternoon July 9, 1967 when he and two others attempted to swim across the Allegheny River below Franklin, at Ajax. Schreffler was spending the day at a cottage near Ajax. Franklin firemen reported Schreffler and two others attempted to swim across the river and Schreffler didn't make it. His body was found in about eight feet of water at 4:20 p.m. by Richard Morgan of Franklin. He owns a cottage near where the drowning occurred. The firemen said they were summoned to the scene at 4:24 p.m. They said the young man's body was found about 50 feet from shore. A doctor was at the scene of the drowning. Venango County Coroner Dr. Maurice Dinberg said he viewed the body and signed a certificate of accidental death. Schreffler was a senior at Penn State University. He was studying industrial engineering and would have been graduated in December. For the past two summers he was employed at the Joy Manufacturing Co. Victor D. Schreffler was born December 3, 1945, son of James Gail and Genevieve Pryor Schreffler. They survive. He was a member of the Van Methodist Church. He was graduated from Cranberry Area High School in 1963. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ray (Sandra) O'Neil of Roaring Springs and Karla J. Schreffler, at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lottie Pryor of Van; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Schreffler of Van.
