He was born in Washington township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and moved with his father to Mahoning township when about six years of age. He became a prosperous farmer and stock-raiser of South Mahoning township. He was an earnest member of the United Presbyterian church and a republican who always worked faithfully in the interest of his party.
