He attended school at Sheakleyville, Pennsylvania, going by bicycle or horse and buggy, graduating from High School in 1913. After graduation he worked for the United States Steel in Farrell and on Sept. 1, 1917, entered army service in the 80th Division, 305th Ammunition Train, served over­seas and was mustered out June 30, 1919. He returned to work for the United States Steel Corporation and from 1934 until he retired Oct. 1, 1960 worked for the National Casting Company in Sharon.
He was a member of the American Legion (No. 299) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. (No. 3535) He was a member of the Covenant United Presbyterian Church of Sharon. He travelled extensively and spent time in every state in the Union except Alaska and Hawaii. He was partial to travel by train or boat. On a number of occasions he took his relatives on trips throughout the country. During the latter part of his life he lived with his cousin, Laverne Cochran in Sharon until her death in 1965.
