General Notes: Husband - James Say, Sr.
Migrated from England to America about 1740/6
Got land grant in 1746
Got legacy from his brother, Col. John Say, in 1757
Resided in Carlisle, Cumberland Co, PA
of Berkshire, England. He came to America in 1752-54.
The English estate of his brother, who died in England about 1756, fell by inheritance to James Say who, because of the dangers of ocean travel at the time, did not claim it and it reverted to the Crown. Many years afterward a grandson, James Say, and the latter's nephew, Joseph Say, and others, made unsuccessful attempts to secure the property. [PAH, 77]
He was born in England and became one of the first settlers at Slippery Rock, Butler County, Pennsylvania.
