General Notes: Husband - George G. Stitzinger
He grew up on his father's farm and helped with the farm work while receiving his education at the local school. After that he taught school for two years and then went to work for a lumber manufacturer, where he learned the business. He saved money and accumulated a small capital with which he established himself in a small way, in 1898, as an independent lumber dealer in New Castle, Pennsylvania. As his business grew, his success led to the organization of other companies: the Citizens' Lumber Company, of which he became president, and the Glade Lumber Company, of which he also became president. In addition he was a director of the Lawrence Savings and Trust Company. He was a Republican, and served on the School Board. He was a thirty-second degree Mason, being a member of Mahoning Lodge, No. 243, Valley of New Castle Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, of Pittsburgh. He belonged to the New Castle Field Club, where he was on the board of directors when the new clubhouse was built, and was a director in the Young Men's Christian Association for about fifteen years. In the Methodist Church of which he was a member, he was teacher of the Men's Bible Class for fifteen years.
