General Notes: Husband - J. Manesfield Read

He pursued his literary studies in the schools of Lawrence township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and early became familiar with the labors of the farm. In 1880 he located on his own place-a tract of 148 acres, ninety of which were cleared and placed under a high state of cultivation. Besides general farming, he also engaged in lumbering with good success.
He was an ardent supporter of the Democratic party, and served as a member of the school board. He held membership in the American Mechanics Society, and Mt. Joy Grange.
