He received his education in the common schools. After he left school he learned the tailor trade, but a portion of his time he was employed as a clerk in the store, and served in that capacity three years during the war. While the oil excitement engrossed his neighbors, he did not engage much in the business. About the year 1871, Mr. Rupert began the merchant tailoring business in the town of Emlenton.
