He and his wife lived on a farm behind David Runninger's farm on the road to Polk. In their old age, they lived in a house on Jacob Runninger's farm, which he had built for them. He received the bulk of their estate for caring for them in their old age.
He and his wife were members of the Nicklin Methodist Church, which they joined in 1869.
