General Notes: Husband - John T. Stauffer
He was a farmer in early life but soon devoted his time and attention to the coal and coke business. He owned and operated the "Star Coal Mines" and coke works, near Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, for several years, but eventually sold these mines and works. After this sale he engaged in stockraising and stock-dealing for a number of years and then retired from active business. He reared a family of eleven children, all of whom were still living in 1890.
He lived and died in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. In early life he was a farmer, but later entered the baker's business and was the pioneer of that industry in Westmoreland County. For some years he operated from twenty to thirty ovens near what was later called Stauffer Station. Politically he was a Republican, and held the office of constable for several terms. He was a member of the N. B. church. He died at Mount Pleasant, his home for the last few years of his life.
