General Notes: Husband - James M. Wakefield

He was raised on a farm, taught school for twenty-five years, and followed surveying for over forty years. He was elected justice of the peace in 1862, and was still acting in that capacity almost twenty years later.

He assisted his father with the farm work until his marriage, when he engaged in farming on his own account on another tract in West Wheatfield township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, purchasing the home place after his father's death. The property consisted of 128 acres, and there he remained, devoting all his time to its cultivation and improvement, until he eventually removed to Indiana, where he resided at No. 713 Chestnut street. He was frequently a public official in West Wheatfield township, serving eighteen years as a member of the board of school directors and one year as supervisor, and in the autumn of 1912 he was further honored with election to the office of county commissioner. In politics he was a Democrat.
