General Notes: Husband - William Stewart
He entered the navy as soon as the Revolutionary War began, and remained in it to the close. He was taken prisoner, but escaped with a few others at night, when the guards were asleep, from the vessel in which they were confined, and swam to the shore.
He married and settled at Emmettsburg, Maryland. Here were born most of his children. The family removed to Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, in about 1809. The family removed to Indiana County, in the year 1812, and settled in what is now Brush Valley township, near the "forks" of Yellow Brush.
