General Notes: Husband - John Michael Bast

He was probably born in the Palatinate of Germany before the family fled to Switzerland. It is said that he was the shortest of seven sons, being a mere 6'2" tall, while the others towered above him, so he was playfully called "the runt." It is also said that he was the last of the brothers to come to America, for he stayed on to care for his parents in their old age. He sailed on the ship Lydia, arriving in Philadelphia October 9, 1749. He settled in Philadelphia County.
