He was a merchant engaged in business with his father at the hotel from 1832 to 1844. On May 10, 1843, he was made a Justice of the Peace for Richmond township, Berks County by the Governor of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Building Committee that erected Union Church, Fleetwood, whose corner stone was laid April 25, 1841.
